School Attendance Program Off to a Strong Start

13 May, 2016

The Remote School Attendance Strategy (RSAS) , implemented by Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation (MPREC) in Walgett, has been hailed a success since the program kicked off at the beginning of the 2016 school year.

Providing school uniforms, equipment and transport to and from the school campuses are just a few of the steps that MPREC have taken to nurture and mentor Aboriginal youth in the region.

The RSAS has been designed to support parents, guardians, carers, community members and students to help get children to school every possible day along with putting strategies into place to support school attendance.

The RSAS strategies implemented so far include;

  • Recruiting School Attendance Officers and School Attendance Supervisors who are based in the primary and secondary schools.
  • Street patrols from 8:30am to 9:30am on weekdays to transport late students and absentees to school.
  • Providing students with uniforms and ‘Back To School’ packs at the beginning of the school year. There are plans to include winter clothing provisions for students who may require it in the upcoming months.
  • Supporting existing youth activities within Walgett.

MPREC would like to thank those involved in the RSAS program for their support.

The RSAS initiative is proudly funded/supported by the Australian Government.
